«Literatur, die ankommt» grows out of classroom experience and engagement with the teaching of reading and literature. The series combines accessible language, sustained reading and close work on selected passages.
The companion guide sets out the educational foundations in detail. It distinguishes between research findings, the author’s own classroom experience and the decisions developed from these for the series.
Gottfried Keller’s Clothes Make the Man adds a novella to the series. English edition EN_V1_1 is intended for readers aged approximately 13–15 in English-medium education. German, French and Italian editions also exist. The work pages identify the audience and access arrangements for each edition.
Developing the series on informed foundations
Questions of text comprehension, reading motivation, literary learning and appropriate support are central to development. This also includes considering how language adaptation can make a work more accessible and what changes it introduces to the text.
Educational foundations help explain and justify these decisions. How well the teaching package works in practice must also be examined in the classroom.
Being clear about the stage of development
“Tom Sawyer” is available as English trial edition 1.3, October 2026, for secondary classrooms where English is the main language of schooling. The English handbook gives a broad age range of 12–15, with flexibility to 16. Teachers should judge suitability for their class rather than directly convert the original Swiss year groups. Access to the complete package is agreed individually.
“Huckleberry Finn” has been developed as German trial edition 1.0 for the eighth and ninth years in its intended German-speaking setting. Selected German previews illustrate the approach. No English teaching edition or publication date for that title has been confirmed.
Results from systematic classroom trials are not yet available. The series is therefore not claimed to have demonstrated effectiveness.
Using experience to improve the materials
Feedback from specialists and classroom experience should show which approaches work, where comprehension difficulties arise and what adjustments are needed. The actual workload for teachers is also part of this assessment.
These findings inform revisions to the materials and the further development of the series. You can find information about taking part under “Classroom trials”.
Exploring the approach in greater depth
The companion guide provides the detailed educational foundation for the series and is intended to form part of the future publication offering. This website introduces the central ideas; the complete guide is not available here as a public download.
