Students bring different experiences of books, language and longer texts. Some read quickly but lose track of how events connect. Others understand a scene well but need support to express their ideas.
«Literatur, die ankommt» takes these different starting points into account. Shared questions about the work bring the class together; suitable support allows students to approach them in different ways.
Keeping a shared focus on the work
Manageable reading stages and shared key passages provide a clear framework. They enable discussion of characters and developments, even when students need different amounts of time or support.
The reading edition and the classroom edition contain the same text. The two editions serve different working situations and do not represent different levels of difficulty.
Choosing appropriate support
An explanation of a word, a search limited to a specific passage or help with phrasing can make the next step possible. What matters is identifying the particular difficulty and choosing support that helps students continue their own thinking.
The materials offer a range of possibilities. You decide which support is appropriate for your class and the task at hand.
Creating opportunities for deeper exploration
Students who already work confidently can trace connections across several passages, examine conflicting clues or test an interpretation more closely. Shared reading therefore also offers demanding ways to engage with the work.
Developing independence
Support should enable students to work for themselves and can be gradually withdrawn as their confidence grows. Where difficulties with foundational reading skills persist, additional targeted support remains important.
The companion guide explores the subject-specific and pedagogical reasoning behind these decisions in greater depth; the handbooks for individual works develop these ideas through concrete classroom situations.
